In Tibetan Buddhism, Vajrasattva is a crucial deity in the Vajrayana tradition and is considered a symbolic Buddha who purifies karma and negative forces. He represents pure essence, compassion, and wisdom, and is associated with the sambhogakāya body (enjoyment body). He holds a high status among practitioners and is often used as a core object of purification practice, particularly within the Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu, and Gelug schools of Tibetan Buddhism. His influence is manifested in helping practitioners remove obstacles and purify their karma of body, speech, and mind, thereby facilitating the process of enlightenment. He is known as the "Buddha of Purification" or the "Vajra Being," and plays a key role in daily retreats, empowerment ceremonies, and personal practice. He is even believed to be more powerful than negative karma, preventing its consequences from manifesting.

The use of Vajrasattva primarily refers to his purification practices, which include visualizing his image, chanting the six-syllable mantra (Om Vajrasattva Hum) or the hundred-syllable mantra, and meditative processes that incorporate the "four powers" (power of support, power of destruction, power of counteraction, and power of purification). This practice is used to eradicate negative karma and dissolve obstacles, and is practiced at all levels of Vajrayana tantra, regardless of initiation. Its origins can be traced back to Buddhist scriptures and tantric teachings, where Vajrasattva's aspiration is to help all sentient beings purify their negative karma and return them to a pure state for enlightenment.
