| "Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue." Shakyamuni Buddha (563-483 B.C.) |

Amitabha Buddha (Sanskrit: अमिताभ, Amitābha), meaning Buddha of Infinite Light, also known as Buddha of Infinite Life (Sanskrit: अमितायूस्, Amitāyus), is also called Buddha of Infinite Purity, King of Avalokiteshvara Buddha, and Tathagata of Attaining the Pure Nature of Self-Nature. In Chinese-speaking regions, he is commonly referred to as Amitabha Buddha or Amitabha. In Mahayana Buddhism, he is the lord of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
In the early development of Mahayana Buddhism, Amitabha Buddha held the same status as Akshobhya Buddha of the Eastern Pure Land of Abhirati. Esoteric Buddhism considers him one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas, the lord of the Lotus Family, and the master of the wisdom of perfect observation. During the Tang Dynasty, Master Shandao established the Pure Land school's practice of reciting the Buddha's name, and Amitabha Buddha became one of the mainstream beliefs in Chinese Buddhism.
