Narrative:
The legend of the White Wealth Deity, also known as Jambhala, originates from the time of the Indian Buddhist master Atisha. According to legend, Atisha once encountered a dying beggar during his travels. Moved by great compassion, he cut off a piece of his flesh to help the beggar. However, the beggar refused the gesture, as he did not want to eat human flesh. Atisha then prayed to Avalokiteshvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion), who was so moved that tears fell from his eyes. The tear from Avalokiteshvara's left eye manifested as the Six-Armed Mahakala, and the tear from his right eye manifested as the White Wealth Deity.
The White Wealth Deity vowed to help all sentient beings escape poverty and bestowed the initiation and lineage of his practice upon Atisha. Atisha thus became the lineage holder of the White Wealth Deity practice, passing it down through generations.
