"Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue." Shakyamuni Buddha (563-483 B.C.) |

Material: Mahogany heart. Red copper wheel
Size: approx. 15.3 cm
Narration:
There are about 23 species of plants in the genus Mahogany, two of which are commonly cultivated in Taiwan, namely Swietenia mahagoni (L.) Jacq.) and Swietenia macrophylla King. The plants are quite similar in appearance. The main difference is in the leaves. The leaves of the genus Mahogany are all even-numbered pinnate compound leaves. Each leaf in the pinnate compound leaf is called a leaflet. The leaflets of the former are about 3- 7.5 cm, while the latter is about 9-21 cm in length. Small-leaf mahogany is rarely planted because of its slower growth.
Plants such as mahogany are native to Central America. They are hard, red and have beautiful texture, so they are called mahogany in Chinese. It is used to make furniture and wall panels with elegant quality. The material is hard, not easy to bend, deform, and wear-resistant. It is easy to process and manufacture, and the finished product has a gorgeous reddish-brown or golden-brown color. It is a very good wood. In 1901 AD, the Japanese Tashiro Andashi was introduced to Taiwan from Japan, and was subsequently introduced to other areas many times.
