Narrative:

Amitayus, also known as the Buddha of Infinite Life, is the image of Buddha in Buddhism that symbolizes longevity, wisdom and blessings. He is the reward body incarnation of Amitabha Buddha, specializing in prolonging life and eliminating disasters. Together with White Tara and Vajrapani, they are known as the "Three Deities of Longevity".

**Story and Origin**

The image and teachings of the Buddha of Longevity mainly come from the Amitabha Sutra and Tantric scriptures. In the Buddhist cosmology, the Buddha of Longevity resides in the **Pure Land**, protecting all living beings with infinite compassion and wisdom, helping them to prolong their lifespans, eliminate karma, and ultimately guide them to liberation from the cycle of reincarnation.

The image of the Buddha of Longevity is usually a **red body**, symbolizing vitality and compassion. He wears a five-Buddha crown, celestial robes, and his hands are in meditation mudra. In his hands, he holds a **longevity vase** filled with longevity nectar, symbolizing endless life and blessings.

**BELIEF AND PRACTICE**

In Tibetan Buddhism, practicing the Dharma of Longevity Buddha is believed to prolong life, eliminate disasters, and increase wisdom and blessings. Reciting the mantra of the Buddha of Longevity or participating in a Dharma assembly for the Buddha of Longevity can help practitioners accumulate merit, avoid untimely death, and eliminate illness and obstacles.

In addition, the image of the Buddha of Longevity is often seen in thangkas, sculptures and temple murals as an important symbol for praying for health and longevity. Practicing the Dharma of Longevity Buddha is also believed to help practitioners enter the Pure Land after death.

The story and image of this Buddha not only demonstrate Buddhism’s respect for life, but also remind people to cherish the present and practice actively.
