Narrative:

Medicine Buddha, whose full name is **Medicine Master Liuliguang Tathagata**, is an important Buddha in Buddhism, symbolizing healing and compassion. He is the leader of the Eastern Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and is known as the "Three Holy Ones of the East" together with the Bodhisattva of Sunlight and the Bodhisattva of Moonlight.

**Story and Origin**

The image and teachings of Medicine Buddha mainly come from the "Medicine Buddha Sutra". When practicing in the causal realm, Medicine Buddha made the **Twelve Great Vows**, aiming to relieve the suffering of all beings, heal the body and mind, and guide all beings to the path of liberation. Here are a few of the important wishes:

1. May all sentient beings have healthy bodies, free from disease and suffering.

2. May all beings be free from poverty and have everything they need in life.

3. May all sentient beings practice the right path and ultimately attain Bodhi.

The image of Medicine Buddha is usually blue, symbolizing the purity and brightness of glass. He holds a medicine bowl in his left hand and herbs in his right hand, representing the ability to heal all living things.

**BELIEF AND PRACTICE**

In Buddhist belief, chanting the name or mantra of Medicine Buddha can eliminate disasters and prolong life, cure diseases, and bring inner peace and happiness. Many Buddhists also hold the Medicine Buddha Dharma Assembly to light lamps and pray for the protection of Medicine Buddha.

The story of Medicine Buddha not only demonstrates Buddhism’s pursuit of compassion and wisdom, but also reminds people of the importance of paying attention to physical and mental health and spiritual practice.
